VOICE OF BRIDGEPORT, WV

MUSIC ON MAIN
Music on Main is located in the heart of downtown Bridgeport, WV. They host live shows every weekend, they offer music lessons, recording, mixing/mastering, and guitar re-amping all week.
In June 2024, they will be closing because the City of Bridgeport is now requiring all performers that play at this venue to individually file for a city business license.
Knowing that West Virginia does not require a license for gig workers, why is the city forcing such a frivolous burden?
We feel this is a slippery slope that may open a door in allowing the city to demand individual business license for other gig workers including Door Dash drivers, wedding singers, dance recital participants, and even umpires and referees at sporting events.
Venues like Music on Main have been providing our community and local artists a place to share their talents. Is collecting these ridiculous fees worth it?
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, HEREBY PETITION the City of Bridgeport to immediately reverse this policy and allow gig workers and artists the opportunity to share their work and talents with our community.
